iSH exists to unite and champion Cumbria’s tech capability through the development of regional industrial clusters leading to inclusive economic growth. It is funded by Sellafield Ltd, through the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, and is owned by Cumberland Council. It has developed three clusters so far, including a Robotics Cluster, a Manufacturing Cluster, and an Advanced Technologies Cluster.
Robotics Cluster
Robotics Cluster
The Cumbria Robotics Cluster aims to foster collaboration and innovation, drive growth, and position West Cumbria as a leader in robotics technology for challenging environments.
Manufacturing Cluster
Manufacturing Cluster
iSH has developed its Manufacturing Cluster in collaboration with the cluster’s anchor organisation, the Sellafield Manufactured Products Organisation (MPO).
Advanced Technologies Cluster
Advanced Technologies Cluster
iSH has developed its Advanced Technologies Cluster which includes an XR Cluster and a Digital Cluster
Championing Cumbria’s Robotics Capability
The Cumbria Robotics Cluster aims to foster collaboration and innovation, drive growth, and position West Cumbria as a leader in robotics technology for challenging environments. Companies operating in the field of robotics with a base or employees in Cumbria are welcome to join the cluster. The Robotics cluster programme includes:
- Mapping and raising visibility of robotics capability within Cumbria
- Opportunity sharing and business development across nuclear and other sectors
- Promotion & showcasing – national and international
- Skills development and sprints
Championing Cumbria’s Manufacturing Capability
iSH has developed its Manufacturing Cluster in collaboration with the cluster’s anchor organisation, the Sellafield Manufactured Products Organisation (MPO), which procures the large containers for the management and storage of waste and other products required for long-term decommissioning activities.
The Manufacturing Cluster is focused on:
- Supporting the growth and promotion of the Cumbria Manufacturing Alliance (CMA)
- Helping to grow a more prosperous and resilient manufacturing supply chain for Cumbria
- Building bridges with customers across the nuclear industry
- Helping the manufacturing supply chain to diversify to other sectors

Championing Cumbria’s Advanced Technologies Capability
Advanced Technologies includes an XR Cluster and a Digital Cluster.
XR Cluster
- Fostering Collaboration and Growth through promoting partnerships across sectors
- Attracting investment and creating new opportunities by growing the high-tech XR ecosystem.
- Enhancing Skills and Capabilities through training and upskilling programs and sprints.
Digital Cluster
- Unlocking opportunities through shared infrastructure and resources by collectively making the most of local digital facilities and spaces.
- Connects industry, education and community empowering people with digital skills for the future.
- Unites organisations and fosters collaboration of those working in the digital space to build a stronger digital Cumbria and multiply our impact.
